Millie and Eileen had a free day between the conference in Jacksonville and the
next one in Tavares, so they took the scenic route between those two locations.

Here are their pictures from that journey.

A cool produce stand - we just had to stop.

photo: sign for Ga. Fried Peanuts

This was one of those roadside gift shops
and we saw noticed the sign for "Georgia Fried Peanuts."    We'd heard of boiled peanuts - but fried peanuts??  When asked "What are fried peanuts?" the guy behind the counter said -- slowly, so we'd understand:

"Peanuts that been fried."

The hotel room we stayed in (in Palatka)
was split into two sides.  One side had a livingroom area...

...the other side had two beds and a big jacuzzi bathtub (which we didn't use, lol).

Inside the visitor center, we learned about the Cross Florida Barge Canal... it was a huge project that began in the 1930's.
February 2008

An actual canal was started, which was planned to cut right through the middle of Florida!

We even watched a little movie about the construction of the canal.  By the way, work was stopped on the canal, which was 1/3 complete, by an injunction in 1971.
