AWARE Project Objectives & Activities

Through the proposed objectives,
the AWARE project will:
· provide one-on-one support to parents by phone or in person;
· facilitate quality interactive presentations;
· disseminate information and research-based materials;
· promote parental participation in IEP's through education, information, and outreach which will help parents to participate comfortably;
· provide opportunities for parents to receive peer-to-peer support;
· provide information to parents about opportunities for participation at school and school reform levels;
· expand the existing CFPC website to provide resources, information, and online interactive activities;
· utilize internet technology for ongoing communication and information-sharing;
· provide opportunities designed to engage students and young adults in their transition from school to higher education and community life;
· provide opportunities for students and young adults to receive peer-to-peer support;
· facilitate targeted outreach with a focus on meeting the needs of typically underserved parents;
· implement outreach programs through the utilization of volunteers;
· provide quality training and support to staff and volunteers;
· conduct specific outreach for parents of children who may be inappropriately identified as having a disability;
· and undertake activities to be a conduit for cohesive collaboration between organizations and agencies in central Florida.
